Happy Birthday Mart

Today would have been my friend Mart (Martha)'s birthday.  Less then a year ago, I got a phone call from her.  She had been to the doctor's.  They did some routine blood work, and she was now waiting to hear back from them, but they were pretty sure she had cancer.  And sadly they were.  On March 1, the Lord brought Mart home to live with him.  It's still just as hard for me to grasp this today as it was that day.  Mart and I had a roller coaster of a friendship. Our lows were low, but our ups were some of the highest moments of my life.  She always made me laugh (he's not all that and a bag of chips, construction workers and ice cream cones, ask Patty about the thongs.  LOL).  She was a blessing to me and my children.  They have such fond memories of her (and thank her each time the get to blow a straw wrapper).

Little bits and pieces of memories find their way into our days.  An old birthday card, a letter she wrote.  The "Mom's Taxi" she gave me has a permanent spot hanging from my rear-view mirror.  All the memories that we created together are permanently etched in my heart.

I created this layout as a tribute to her.  She is so deeply missed.

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. Happy Birthday Mart.

A CT Competition Layout

On Saturday, my external hard-drive, home to ALL my scrapbook supplies, decided it had finally had enough.  Thankfully, all the information was able to be retrieved and placed on 2 (yes two, I did learn my lesson), new hard-drives.  But, it would take a bit of time.  So we left them to transfer the data and headed home.  But, we had a minor fender bender.  We're all okay, the car not so much.  So yesterday, I was stuck at home, and my now loaded hard-drives stuck at the shop.  What to do, what to do???

In my searches I came across a digi scrap site called The Digital Scrapbooking Studio.  In searching their pages I found a challenge they were having.  It needed to be in by midnight last night (It was about 3:30 when I saw this).  What is great about kit challenges/layouts, is that they give you the entire kit, and you can only use what is in that kit.  Great news for me.  I wouldn't need any of my other files, but could still scrapbook.  So I set to work, and a few hours later, this is what I came up with:

Kids Calendars

The children wanted calendars for the new school year.  So I decided to try my hand at making them.  They were each allowed to decided what they wanted for each month.  They I take their ideas, blend them with mine.  Mitchell is the first to go.  These are what I have come up with so far.

Do you have a favorite?  I can't decide, but I'm leaning towards Sherlock Holmes.

Horsing Around

Well, somehow I had a little bit of extra time tonight.  So I got another page made for "Little Boy" album.  For obvious reasons, I titled it Horsing Around.  Hope you enjoy.

So happy to be busy

Well, I'm creatively busy.  I'm working on two different albums right now.  One that is long overdue.  (It was supposed to be his 4th b-day present.  He's 6 now.  LOL.  Sorry Rysa.)  But the ideas are flying and I'm so excited.

The other album is for a friend's husband.  This is really an area I haven't worked on in the past, more masculine layouts.  But I'm up for the challenge and can't wait to post some layouts.  Hope you enjoy what I post.

Granma's Blanket

Yesterday was my Granma's 97th birthday.  You might ask "Is she your father's mother?".  No.  "Is she your mother's mother?"  No.  She is my grandmother.  Not by birth, but rather by heart.  While I did know my maternal grandmother, "Grum" for 2 short years, Granma is the only grandmother I have ever really know.  She didn't need to open her home or heart to me.  But she did.  She loved me like her own.  And she loved me in a way no one else ever has.  I couldn't be with her on her birthday this year, but designed a blanket for her.  It has pictures of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  I hope each time she uses it, she remembers just how loved she truly is.
